Aloha girls, was getting worried glad to finally hear from you both........ am updating the ipod now, can't wait to listen! Have a great day all............ finally supposed to see some sun today!!! wooooo hooooooo recaptcha= mitchell quarella= better not do it in here or LMIT will kick their @$$ out!!!!! Eh, where you stay go den? Wen' hololo? No boddah talk story byenbye. More bettah da kine! Aloha pume hana. posted by: Pegasez on Mon, 5/5 06:39 AM EDT Sometimes I feel bad that I say I'm "bi". Comments such as were made during this podcast are why. I don't think it matter 'if' I could have been a 'lesbian' had I not grown up in my small town. Maybe I would have. It doesn't change teh fact that I married a man that I love and is the father of my children. I am not unhappy nor pretending to be stright.. hence I'm 'Bi'. I have felt the discrimination from the Lesbian community that relates to this word. While I agree that some, maybe even many girls decide to advertise as 'bi' to pick up guys not all of us fall in this pot. To quote Ani DiFranco: guess there's something wrong with me guess I don't fit in no one wants to touch it no one knows where to begin I've more than one membership to more than one club and I owe my life to the people that I love I dig that song ("In or Out")! I dig a lot of Ani's songs. I believe her lyrics and her bio will be in future English textbooks and history books, in fact. But, getting back to the topic... We wanted to make sure and clarify the statements in this episode about "being bi," just in case they've been misinterpreted. At some point, we were attempting to portray the opinions others have expressed, opinions we don't agree with, those opinions about "just experimenting, etc." We think that's just plain silly to generalize. Just like we think it's silly to generalize that "lesbians are man-haters" or whatever. Silliness, ignorance, and overly simplified. We've kept doing this podcast, and kept giving a lot of attention to gay topics in it, because of the need we saw - from listener response - to help provide a relaxed, safe, more lighthearted place for people dealing with these issues. Hope that helps to clarify any misunderstanding. All the best to each one of you! Life is more complex, and more simple, than we sometimes make it to be. Don't let the haters get you down! posted by: MAKENA on Mon, 5/5 11:35 AM EDT Oh! I love the podcast :D Hee and Ani Difranco too LOL. And I don't mean to imply that you guys are like that, just that I have in the past experianced that and that it really is an issue. As a Bisexual I do feel that I'm caught in this inbetween space of no real acceptance from either community. LOL I just wanna love everyone!! old subject but Hot girl: Kate Beckinsale Hot guy: Mike Ness (from the band social distortion... don't think too many will agree on this with me though LOL) "Cloven Hooves" does sound like a Dutch phrase! I'll have to ask Karen if it has translation. Toast, "All ya all"? Where did you learn the plural of "ya all"? This was a very funny podcast. I've been to the San Diego Zoo, but not the Wlid Animal thingy. Maybe we can all go when/if we meet up in CA. Have a great day all ya all. Da fountain make me wan' go shi-shi!!! Oh, man... I've never even made it out to the SD Wild Animal Park and I've lived down here in SD pretty much since '87. Actually, it is a LOT closer than the SD Zoo for you ladies and on a hot day with a potential for traffic, you were really better off staying a bit North of the zoo anyway. Hitting on the topic of bisexuality, is there a "tipping point" where for all practical purposes they could ostensibly be considered either gay or straight? I mean, once someone becomes involved in a serious long-term monogamous relationship then that is pretty much how society and the other party in the relationship sees you regardless of how you may see yourself. In essence, if a bisexual is in "hibernation", are they still considered bi or have they indeed transitioned to either straight or gay? Because, I'm assuming that unless that person is openly admitting to everybody their orientation every moment of the day then, at least on the surface, society will make the assumption you are one or the other and hasn't quite accepted the fact that one can like both genders. Then again, does this mean that there could be vast legions of untapped "closet bisexuals" who just need the right TEK to er, "flick the switch"? Gay or straight, relationship or not, you can still be attracted to either gender and/or you certainly can have a healthy appreciation for the physical beauty of either sex. Case in point: When we had the discussion awhile back of who's hot, I know that the ladies choices weren't solely isolated to women. It doesn't make the ladies or anybody else any less secure in their sexuality to recognize "hotness" in either gender. Oh, and I hope that I didn't seem like I had been pressuring for a new podcast to be posted. I felt bad after hearing how Toast seemed stressed about it. It's just that the week before you two had been so adamant about Friday being the new day since the schedule worked that way. Though, apparently in this case, it didn't. But after going without one for awhile and after repeated delays due to health issues, it's easy for us to jump from simple wonder to concern. ReCaptcha: commandos New Dale, I don't advertise that I'm bi but I don't hide it either. For example, if I am out to lunch my co-workers and our waitress in super hot then I am the first to point that out. I don't pretend to not notice her. Hubby and I watch a movie and I'm super excited to find that yes, *insert name* is topless in a scene. I drive around town blaring Ani Difranco, because I love her music. I listen to this podcast at work LOL and my coworkers all know it. I stay current on gay/bi issues. That's not really "hibernating" as you put it. All Bi's eventually make a choice on who to be with for a life partner. That choice does not put an end to the feelings and opinions we still have for the other sex. Just like stright guys may say "oh if I wasnt' married I would so hit on her". I do that too. Here's me with a big HEY to you two. Haven't listened yet, but looking forward to it. I used to live in San Diego and loved going to the park. Have you guys ever considered trying to get a booking there. They used to have a pretty good amphitheater. Be all peaceful with your bad selves... Christopher FOWLER...(the caps are for how Sienna said it last time on the podcast....) posted by: Christopher (michi) Fowler on Mon, 5/5 10:58 PM EDT s&t: okay, okay ... i gave in to siena's 'sandbagging' comment and i left you guys a voice message. (i just had to -- a-lo was so fearless in recording her pidgin foray. i'd be a big chickenchit if i didn't rise to the occasion!) AAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!! siena -- you and your 'sense' ... but really, i took it to the country because my pidgin is normally not that heavy. but yah, i took it to the country. boonies, man. boonie kine pidgin! (hey look -- it's FOWLER! from GMG podcast past!) silent: any time you find yourself getting caught up in feeling that a particular facet of you is not 'accepted' by whomever or whatever social group or situation you are in, just dis-identify with that facet for that moment. let it go. human beings are amazingly nebulous and ever changing so what they might have been one moment gets polarized in the next. at the same time humans can be a bunch of ego-driven crazies trying to make everyone believe that their perception is the ONLY perception and that they are 'right'. it's all relative. so while putting labels on things helps to describe experiences to those who haven't yet had them, if you take it too personally and seek acceptance/approval where there might be none offered, the next best step might be to drop the label & let it go. all for your own peace, of course. i love this podcast too ... makes me laugh so much, and the spectrum of topics (or should i say rainbow of topics? heh heh) that are covered makes for such lively discussions. i'm never bored! oh and it keeps my bp down without meds. so carry on! life is too short to spend it in a place where you don't feel safe and accepted so spend your life here in this podcast!!! bwahahaha!!! ReCAPTCHA: which grabbed (their attention because of the ineptness of her attempt at boonie kine pidgin!) mel: Wow....... LOVE your voice! Thanks for doin' a recording of camme's paragraph. :) It's great to hear all the different types of pidgin. I agree that a-lo's totally FEARLESS, and you're SUPER BRAVE yourself! And.. to respond to the comments in the previous podcast, YES, it has been confirmed that there will be internet at the house we're renting, which means I'll be able to check in with GMG and get suggestions on the local ono grindz! As for reading that paragraph in pidgin.. I think I need to hear more of it to grasp the feel. I feel like right now I'm leaning more towards a southern accent than anything else. Lol. (NOT gonna record that for ya!) I agree with Silent-- very nicely said. Making peace with yourself is most important. Nobby007: Sounds like we'll be spending most of our time on Oahu, so I will DEFINITELY find the time to check out Tamashiro Market! Thanks for the awesome suggestion! :) A-lo: Aren't embedded links just so much fun?! Angie: Welcome to the comments! And as a follow-up to your comment, I'd argue that exposure to anything is good, as long as you're not force-fed it. Just my personal take. :) reCaptcha: needs or three (actually, etolix just needs one.. THE ONE. I'm not greedy! :p) Lilian, I'm sorry to read about the loss of your grandma. My grandmothers are both very special to me, and although one has passed, I still feel her with me, especially when I'm in Hawaii. It's sweet to know that Mel's pidgin brought a smile to your face... mine too. Wish I could send you some Sprinkles Cupcakes. Hope you and Theresa are taking good care. Ken okay, contest entry from the "fearless" A-lo! http://homepage.mac.com/amv12/iMovieTheater38.html peace! Yes, Amanda, you are fearless. I love how Mitty is sooooooooooo helpful! She and Cubby must be related somewhere down the line. However, JJ, is in big trouble!!! And, so am I. I was in the backyard planting flowers in pots and I let him come outside with me. Cubby does that all the time and she is very good about staying in her own yard. JJ is NOT! I was keeping an eye on him. Honest. I saw him go thru the fence into the neighbor's yard and I went to look for him . . . a short time later. I can't find that damn cat!!!!! Say a prayer for the worldest dumbest cat!!!! Hi Lilian ~ We're sorry to hear about your grandma's passing. All our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Please take care of yourself. Take time to heal. (And Bonnie ~ calm down, the cat's home already.) ;) T&S posted by: MAKENA on Tue, 5/6 10:41 PM EDT all you guys (you know who you are): thanks so much for your generous compliments on my pidgin reading. that was a tough one! and i see that it has brought smiles to many-a-faces ... that just made it so worth it for me to bite the bullet and go audio! lilian: i wish your gramma a safe trip home. and since you still have to stay here, continue to take care of yourself and enjoy your time here as best as you can. i'm happy to have contributed to your smile at this time! (synchronicity, you know? siena has such a 'sense' -- she egged me on!) etolix: hoboy! thank you for your wonderful compliments! i get all beeg head now! in all honesty, i was so nervous to make the recording and initially thot to shy away from doing it even tho i wanted to respond to siena's 'sandbagging' comment. but what gave me the courage to get on there and record the voice message was that if a-lo can do it, so can i. i was inspired! and i think you oughta get at least 1 free entry into this week's contest for posting your yo-yo flicks a few podcasts back. that should afford you some slack in recording a pidgin english entry. you can always post a sentence in pidgin english -- or if you're game i can translate for you but it'll be townie pidgin and not camme pidgin! and looks like you're all set for your family(?) reunion in july! there's a lot more ono kine grindz like Tamashiro Market so you won't get to all of them but if you kind of know where you're gonna be, i'm sure someone can give suggestions for those place in that area! whoo-hoo! a-lo: sistah, you stay gettin' it! you gettin' it!! (ranting about your contest entry) mitty kinda interrupted your reading flow but huge improvement from your initial sight read. you are SO the fearless one! and you smiled? *blush* you've got a great smile! thank you! mary k: you're rocking it. cool post. what is "moi moi"? if that's "sleep" we say "going nene" in pidgin. just a little tidbit for you. bonnie: cool yo jets. da cat wen come back already. (some pidgin for you ... no dutch!) Alright, already. I'm calm. I didn't mean to post twice. ANd, I realize now that ther is no K in panic. And there is no crying in baseball. Stomme kat!!! There's the Dutch, Mel. I would love to have Karen read something in pidgin with here wonderful Dutch accent. I have a pidgin book somewhere. . . And then I think I need a mic for the PC. . . mmmmmmmmmmmmm, gotta work on that. Dutch for tired is "ik moe" (I'm tired) not to be confused with "ik moet", I gotta go shi shi. Have a great day all. I'm gonna go set with my sistah while my muddah gets her teeth pulled. Oooooooo Ha Ha Ha. okay, for the tiniest of seconds there i thought etolix might have lost it... oh, yes. Siena said the African elephants' were the ones with ears that looked like roast beef LOL! wheewww : ) sirloin patty beaver tails!?!? a-lo ReCaptcha doctor feminist (like that one) Hi Lilian, Sorry about the loss of your Grandmother. Mine has been gone a long time (d.1991), and I still miss her a lot. Over time the feeling changed from being very sad at the thought of her, to being happy to have the memories and sharing with others. She made a wonderful lemon pie I think I can taste as I type this! Positive energy to you! Mahalo girls for the wonderful laughs and continued lowering blood pressure medication! Wow girls started off full of energy!!!!!! Toast maybe you smelled too much animal fumes at the zoo lol!!! I have a suggestion don’t give the podcast a name like Makena Monday or Friday just say Makena Weekly and surprise us!!! It’ll keep us on our toes and looking daily! When I hadn’t heard from you gals ina while I thought maybe you’d snuck to Northampton for Pride then when I was there and heard that someone from Hawaii was there to perform I got real excited but it was Jesse Molina. She was good but it wasn’t my Makena! My suggestion to you Toast is to make yourself a list and stick to it and even write in your down time and just stick to the list then you will get in your down time and everything else you want to get done……. Well we didn’t go to a wildlife park/zoo but on our way to pride we did see a black bear and her 4 cubs that was totally cool!!! Lorikeets are messy birds beautiful but they eat a nectar diet and squirt their dropping and usually never in the cage but aim their butts out to the walls and surrounding areas….. not very good for indoor pets…………. Pidgin…………hmmmmmmmm not me but us French Canadians kinda sound like Toast’s imitation of Camme, we call it cannuck tho. I did have a hard time understanding reading it the spoken version was more easily understood. I kinda felt stupid not being able to read it! Ok this info might help anyone looking for any type of book go to www.fetchbook.info and type in what you are looking for most books are used some new but a lot in very good condition. I get all my books there college or pleasure……… Lilian I am sorry to hear of your loss………….. I hope things look better for your family……… please take care OMG A-lo Kathy and I laughed so much but not at you but Mitty!!! Maybe you should try some monkey butt stuff on the pain in the ass kitty!!! Lol she is a big ham isn’t she??? Wants all the center stage!!!! Good job tho on the pidgin you brave soul!!!! Ok my cannuck version of pidgin would be: Hey dere you trow me up da stairs my shoes wud ya hey. Doesn’t sound too good written but it’s pretty funny heard and no I aint gonna do it……… Bonnie glad to hear everything is ok with the world’s dumbest cat! Try calling ya later this week/weekend k? take care all And Siena and Toast the package went out today keep a look out for it k? Ok all have a great day and take care…. And remember if you want to see any of the performers from Northampton Pride check out youtube and look up Diane511 you’ll find them! recaptcha= effect swedish well Bonnie although Karen is not Swedish I think it is a sign for her to do some Dutch pidgin...... it was as close as recaptcha could think of......... hey everyone, thank you for all the concerns, prayers... everything meant alot to me. i finally took the courage to look at my ah ma (grandma) last night. i recall those time when she was standing at her big stove making a kind of snack and i helped her to stir the mixture. Back then, my ah ma used wood to start fire in her big stove and she would always allow me to throw some sweet potatos into the fire...yeah...till now i would do that if there's any bbq session. i never forget the sweetness. I never forget how ah ma would squeeze a dollar into my hand for school. the traditional chinese prayer session will start tomorrow...i have till sunday before we send her off.... thanks again. L Queen, yes, mitty's a bit of a ham. here were attempts #1 & #2...just keep watchin' mitty : ) http://homepage.mac.com/amv12/iMovieTheater39.html Lilian, I hope this makes you smile just a little bit. Love. a-lo A very fine and happy day to the young Siena; I believe she celebrates a birthday today!! Let's everyone eat cake!! Celebrate!! An' me, still no can open da A-lo file! Ho! 'k den, 2nd da motion -- have a great weekend everyone! TGIF! ReCAPTCHA: alfalfa Pendleton Clarification for the people who are not from Hawai'i. "Ne ne" is Japanee and "moi moi" is Hawaiian and mean da same ting: sleep. So usage depends I tink what yore et-nic background stay. One moa ting: Camme try call in yore message on da Makena website cuz wuz kine-a hahd for read um. Probly cuz we all stay bilingual even if we went grow up in Hawai'i. We are required (forced?) to speak, read, write "standard" English in order to make it in this society. Onee recently Lee Tanouchi wen make pidgin more standardized and maybe we gotta go back school for learn da kine way for spell like dat. I hea now days pidgin qualify for first language wen you sign up for college. So S&T, at this early part of the competition, I believe A-lo definitely deserves a, if not, THE prize. Her attempt was truly fearless!! reCaptcha: sheep commerce (anyone ever see Nick Park's "Wallace and Grommit: A Close Shave?")
