Y a ll be blessed. LMIT S & T, Just wanted to say for the record i did not wear plaid shorts to the Columbus Pride. I do not even own a pare and i dont think i ever will. But everyone else there seemed to, boys/girls, young/old it didnt seem to matter. I went with my friend J and it was both of our first times ever going to pride so we wanted to do something unique and we planned our outfits out to match. We ordered these seafoam polo shirts and wore them with dark jeans and black shoes. I think we looked great. As for my personal style im not sure what id call myself. Im not dyke for sure and not really femm either. I dont wear make-up or dresses or heals. I buy mens shoes and mens shorts and swim trunks but i wear tight girl jeans and form fitting tops and bikini tops to swim. How i dress each day kind of varies. One thing i have noticed though is that when i dress the least girly is when a guy will approach me. I dont know why that doesn't make sense to me. Im like look at my outfit cant you tell what i am? Guess not. But when i dress more girly they leave me alone haha. Yay!
posted by: MAKENA on Thu, 7/24 09:17 PM EDT double yay!!! : ) just wanted to chime in with thoughts from this week's show. I was hot, tired and sitting in a laundromat... then came Siena's haole translation of Toast's pidgin. Soooo funny THANK YOU, It felt soooo good to laugh. and, uh, could someone please explain to me how #69 does not involve lying down? NO WAIT I take that back! Aloha Friday! S&T, I think that's great how you've had Japanese Talking Man as a special guest for the past few episodes! Pidgin Talking Man should stop by and share a few words of wisdom too! :) Hahaha... the pidgin/translation was hilarious! So sad about Lei's BBQ! Gonna miss the lemon coconut chicken and poke! But I wish them the best, and I'd definitely go for plate lunch at Mitsuba Delicatessen when I'm in Oahu! Amanda, Sorry it has taken me a few days to respond, but here is the recap of my birthday celebration last Saturday... it was rather mellow this year, but it was fun. :) It took me about a month to decide what I wanted to do/where I wanted to go for my birthday. I was considering having an all day party at the beach where Siena & Toast were performing that night so that my friends and I could see them, but then not knowing if my friends would feel comfortable going out to eat dinner after spending all day at the beach & being in beach attire at a casual restaurant near the beach, I decided not to. I also considered one of my favorite restaurants in Torrance, but then thought that it was just too far for most of my friends to drive to, just to have dinner. So, I decided to have it at one of my favorite Japanese restaurants (Tokyo Table) located at a shopping mall in Arcadia, CA in which most of my friends only live a few minutes away from. Tokyo Table is actually the sister restaurant of Shokudo (one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Honolulu). I was very appreciative to have 15 of my friends come and celebrate with me! For most of my birthday for the past several years, I've looked forward to my birthdays so I could show my appreciation in some way to my friends for coming out to celebrate. Last year I treated about 25 of them to a pre-paid buffet at the Hawaiian restaurant where Siena & Toast performed, and this year, I was hoping to pay at least half of each person's meal... but unfortunately this year my financial situation wouldn't allow me to. So, instead, I bought 7 of my friends (who I knew would drink) a shot of my favorite premium sake (Kubota Manju). Each one of my friends have treated me out to lunch or dinner countless times throughout the years on random occasions and several been so generous with favors, and whenever my birthday comes around, I look forward to doing something for them to show my appreciation for their generosity and friendship. I also look forward to the days when I am as fortunate as they are to be able to afford treating them to countless lunches and dinners, and alot more. The dinner was great (some really excellent dishes there, and alot of them you wouldn't usually see on a typical Japanese restaurant menu). I was glad that everyone had a good time talking with each other and maybe even making new friends that night. Some of my friends were trying to get me to drink more (even though I had an equivalent to about 4 beers and 4 sake shots -- which didn't do much for me as they could tell by my demeanor), but I was too busy getting up and walking down towards the end of the table to be sure to chat with everyone. Service was excellent, and our waitress actually hooked me up with a free beer. :) She was sweet, and we were sure to give her extra tip. Everyone (including the entire wait-staff) embarrassingly sang "happy birthday" to me, and I was also given their signature over-sized honey toast (2 huge slices of toast, with the centers cut out into cubes with honey and ice cream) which was on the house too. Afterwards, I continued to keep the vibe mellow, and chose to hang out with most of my friends at a friend's house and play Rock Band on the X-BOX, play a few guitar riffs on the new electric guitar amp that 3 of my friends chipped in to buy me for my birthday, and of course have a few more drinks! thanks ken, so cool about your b-day. wish i was there to join in the celebration. low key is good when surrounded by family and friends. so neat to hear about the ohana??? that seems to follow you wherever you go (definitely a characteristic of the Makena Man). 4 beers and 4 sake shots? i'm thinking you were also too busy getting up and down to go shi-shi! love hearing about the new guitar amp, the singing etc. the only thing missing...where's the dancing?!? again, maybe next year...or the next...i will be there and will make sure this is taken care of...i'm pretty good at dancin' to those Prince tunes. : ) mel, was da shyness fo? you look da good kine in da photos. i say post em ya? no make ass. have a great day all. a-lo p.s. yes i think pidgin speaking man should share some words of wisdom too. perhaps with haole interpreter in tote : ) A-lo, It would've been great to have you there! :) For a future birthday party, I'm thinking of having it 80's-style, so it would be perfect to have you there to dance to some Prince songs, and see everyone in their 80's outfits! Haha... and yes, was definitely busy getting up and down to go shi-shi plenny times! ALooooooooooooooooha! Well it's been one crazy week for me I worked worked worked........ gonna be a busy start to next week too..... Have a great day all take care and enjoy the weather! finally nice here after a week of t-storms! Querecaptcha= stillmore bank........... do we really need more? just a quick question. my brother and his wife (Elly) have just moved into a new house. i was wondering if there were any Hawaiian traditions or gifts typical for blessing a new home and family. i'd like to send them a "cool" gift. mitty wants to send fur balls. a-lo Mitty! No fur balls! I know you mean well, but people just don't understand. Amanda, I don't have an answer for you. Sorry. Mel, thanks for checking on the Oahu entertainment scene. I love George Kahumoku. Not gonna get to Maui this trip, though. We will take a day and go to the Big Island and spend a night at my cousin's B & B, though. And, of course, we wanna be sure to meet up with you, Mel. Gettin' hot here again. Most of the week was very mild. Havin' our "ladies" group over for a cookout tonight. If you're in the area, stop in. OH, and Mel, love Ledward, too. Saw him in IL last August. What a great guy. His wife was very nice, too. I'd see him in a heart beat if possible. Thanks again for all your help. I owe you dinner. Bonnie S & T: are you thinking of a Wikipedia type website? Like a GMGpedia? And lagunas aren’t anything like a beach, but they are very pretty. About Ken’s comment…I was thinking “me too!” before you guys said that “cream of the crop” lol I posted some pics of my bday on flickr And I have a couple videos http://youtube.com/watch?v=uwriuh-YpwI http://youtube.com/watch?v=2JjbjfXw874 The first one is us playing twister (I won) And the second one is when my parents came home and we did the whole cake thing. My mom is the lady standing next to me. Talk to everyone later. :@) aloha saturday everyone! hey a-lo, don't know about any kind of hawaiian tradition but we just do the housewarming gift thing ... get the new homeowners something functionally household-ish. favorite thing is to get them a live plant, like an orchid or palm, or ti plant. i know you're 'sending' it to your brother but you can send live plants via a florist. hope that helps. and "..no make ass" yah, i hope not! bonnie: i asked my other friend about na leo pilimehana and she said they're in japan now but she'll ask what their plans are when they get back. it's prolly too soon to be asking now so i'll remind her later this year. i like george kahumoku too, esp singing hawaiian falsetto. i'll ask my other friend about him & his performance sched. he used to perform w/led kaapana a lot, long ago. 'k den, more later. mary k: checked out your pics on flickr! i must be a flickr dufus (and camme, you're with me on this) but i still can't see my pics and camme's if i'm not logged in! but i can see 808talk's and lilian's ... just what is it that we're doing different that flickr doesn't work that way for us? some insight, please? ReCAPTCHA: St miraculous (yes! i need a flickr miracle!) Mel: About your Flickr problems, if you are talking about not seeing your photos that you have uploaded to just your account (and not sent to the Makena group) then those you need to sign in to see. It's called "your photostream" If you sent them to the Makena group then just go to the group after you have sent them there and you should be able to see them. Have you been sending them to the group? Hope this helps. Recapcha = war poland noooooo not another war lol
