Ok so dis one my dad and aunties wen tell us afta my grampa pass away. My dad wen home (hawaii) fo da funeral and he said was a Buddhist ceremony in an outdoor tent kine thing, all in Japanese so he neva understand what da priest talking about. Pretty soon da priest starts getting pretty serious kine, raising da tempo, an just den a strong wind blew thru da tent and den starts pouring rain, sideways kine! As soon as da priest wen finish, da wind and rain stop and da sun came out again!

But dis only da beginning... dat night my dad wen nene (sleep) in my grampa's room (crazy, i know!). So in da middle of da night, he wen hear da squeak from da front gate and footsteps coming to da steps and up to da front door. He thought he stay dreamin' but then he hear da front door open and da steps come allaway inside. Da next thing he knows it feels like someone stay sitting on top his chest! No can breathe! So he starts yelling..."Pop! It's me, pop! It's ok... it's just me!" After dat da pressure wen disappear! Da next day at breakfast he stay thinking was one dream he wen have and so he starts to tell his sisters..."I wen have one dream last nite..." but then one of my aunties wen interrupt and say "oh yea, whatchu doing last nite? i heard you walking around outside da gate. whatchu wen do?" After he told them about da "dream" everyone stay quiet but pretty convinced dat wasn't one dream after all...I guess my grampa just wanted to come home one mo' time...

    Great stories! Thanks for sharing!

By the way, very interesting to hear about a spirit possibly sitting on someone's chest or holding a person down while they're asleep. I've heard about this for years, but have never experienced it myself -- until a few weeks ago -- when I was in Waimanalo, Hawai'i!

On the first night that I slept in one of the beach houses that my friend had rented for his wedding party, I had awaken in the morning from what I thought was a bad dream. During my sleep, I felt some kinda pressure on my chest and feeling like I couldn't breathe. I was also trying to shout out something too, but was unable to do anything, feeling helpless! I suddenly woke up. The feeling of being unable to breathe felt very real.

I've never seen a ghost or anything resembling a ghost or spirit. I didn't even think that what I had experienced while in Hawai'i could've been a ghost! But when Siena had mentioned that this spirit/ghost sitting on someone's chest thing is common in Hawai'i, I really do wonder now!

Okay, I think that I have figured out the story about the old lady's spirit on the sampan bus. During the era when those buses ran, Hilo was the second biggest town in the Hawaiian islands. Back in those days, people would get dressed up when they went to visit the 'big town', so as to not look out of place.

I think that the old lady had been visiting Hilo when one of the lethal tsunamis struck the area, in either 1946 or 1960. Her drowned body was swept by the torrent into one of the countless cavities of the volcanic landscape, and was never recovered. Those same tsunami waves also washed up untold thousands of fish onto the land, where many died and rotted alongside the body.

Several years later, someone disturbed the old lady's remains, and that caused her spirit to long to return to her family home outside of Hilo.

Ken: I've had that happen too! Totally thought it was a nightmare. I don't even remember dreaming anything. All I remember is trying to wake up. I think that I heard myself struggling and that it was my own voice that finally woke me up. The feeling I had was that I knew it was something that wasn't good. It was totally unnerving!
